On September 13, 1983, Osborne Computer Corporation declared bankruptcy. The company had become well-known for releasing the first commercially successful portable computer, the Osborne 1, just two years before. Adam Osborne, an author of computer "how-to" books, started the company in 1980. Due to the release of smaller, lighter portable computers, the company's sales went way down. Osborne Computer went defunct in 1985.
