In August 1982, Commodore Business Machines released the Commodore 64 (C64) personal computer! Introduced in January 1982 at the Consumer Electronics Show, the C64 was named by the Guiness Book of World Records as the best-selling single computer model of all time, selling between 12.5 and 17 million units. The C64 was designed in a staggering six weeks, and debuted at a price of $595 ($1900 today), which was a revolutionary price at the time. By the mid-1980s, Commodore was engaged in a ruthless "price war" with Texas Instruments and their TI-99/4a, which led to the price of the C64 to drop to just under $200, which drove TI out of the computer market. The C64 was in production for 12 years, eventually being discontinued in 1994.
