Today in Computer History (January 7th, 1977): The Commodore PET was Introduced at the 1977 Consumers Electronics Show!

On January 7th, 1977, Commodore International introduced the Commodore PET all-in-one personal computer at the January 1977 Consumer Electronics Show. The computer, which was named one of the "1977 Trinity" of Personal Computers along with the Apple II and the TRS-80, began development in 1976 and retailed for $795 in 1977. The name "PET" was suggested by Andre Souson after he saw the Pet Rock in Los Gatos, and stated they were going to make the "pet computer". Following the release of the initial PET 2001 in 1977, the design of the computer was updated through a series of new models with more memory, better keyboard, larger screen, and other modifications. The PET line was discontinued in 1982 after approximately 219,000 machines were sold.
