Today in Computer History (March 10th, 1995): Microsoft Released "Microsoft Bob"!

On March 10th, 1995, Mircosoft released their BOB software interface! BOB was intended to provide a more user-friendly interface for Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows NT operating systems. Microsoft Bob presented screens that showed a house, with rooms that the user could enter and visit which contained familiar household objects that represented computer applications. A cartoon dog named Rover and other cartoon characters provided guidance using speech balloons - a practice that Microsoft made famous with "Clippy" in 1997. Upon release, Microsoft Bob received a large amount of criticism in the media, and did not gain wide acceptance with users, resulting in it's prompt discontinuation in early 1996.
