Today in Computer History (May 2nd, 1983): Microsoft Introduced It's Two-Button Computer Mouse!

On May 2nd, 1983, Microsoft released the Microsoft Two-Button Computer Mouse. Serving as the company's first foray into hardware, the mouse was designed to provide a "point-and-click" interface for the text-heavy world of MS-DOS. Known affectionately as the "Green-Eyed Mouse", it was released to primarily support the launch of Microsoft Word 1.0. Despite its historical significance, the mouse was not an immediate hit. It retailed for the high price of $195 ($600 today), and while Microsoft manufactured 100,000 units, they only sold 5,000, as most PC users saw the mouse as a luxury "gimmick" as almost all software was operated via keyboard commands. When Microsoft released a quieter, refined version in 1985, the computer mouse became a staple of the PC experience.
