Today in Film History (April 15th, 1983): "Flashdance" was Released to U.S. Theaters!

On April 15th, 1983, the romantic drama dance film, "Flashdance", was released to theaters across the United States. Directed by Adrian Lyne, the film stars Jennifer Beals as Alex Owens, a dancer who aspires to be a professional ballerina. Upon release, the film received mostly negative reviews from critics. But, despite that, the film went on to become the third-highest-grossing film of 1983, earning $201.5 million in the worldwide box-office on a $7 million production budget. The soundtrack for the film spawned two number one hits on the Hot 100 chart, including "Flashdance... What a Feeling" by Irene Cara and "Maniac" by Michael Sembello.
