Today in Film History (April 19th, 1930): The First "Looney Tunes" Cartoon Premiered in U.S. Theaters!

On April 19th, 1930, the first "Looney Tunes" cartoon premiered in theaters across the United States. As the first theatrical cartoon short made by Warner Bros, the cartoon features a character named Bosko, and its title is a pun on the 1929 song, "Singin' in the Bathtub". The film, as well as the name of the "Looney Tunes" series resembled Walt Disney's "Silly Symphony" series, which revealed that the creators of "Looney Tunes" firmly believed that the only way to compete and survive was to copy Disney. Bosko became their first star character, and was only replaced by Porky Pig and Daffy Duck many years later.
