On August 27th, 1964, Walt Disney's "Mary Poppins" premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The film starred Julie Andrews in her feature film debut, as well as Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson, and Glynis Johns. The whole film was shot entirely at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California, using painted backgrounds of London. "Mary Poppins" was released to critical acclaim, eventually being released to theaters on September 24, 1964. The film earned $44 million in theatrical rentals in the U.S., and became the highest grossing film of 1964 in the United States, as well as Disney's highest-grossing film at the time. During its lifetime in theaters, the film grossed over $103 million worldwide and received thirteen Academy Award nominations, a record for any Disney film, and won five! It was also the only Walt Disney film to be nominated for a Best Picture award during Walt Disney's lifetime.
