Today in Film History (August 2nd, 1988): Pixar's "Tin Toy" Premieres at SIGGRAPH!

On August 2nd, 1988, the Pixar short film, "Tin Toy", premiered at the annual computer conference, SIGGRAPH. It was the third short film produced by Pixar, and was a risky investment due to the company being under financial constraints. The film was a success at the SIGGRAPH conference, and received a standing ovation from scientists and engineers who attended the show. "Tin Toy" eventually won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1988, becoming Pixar's first Academy Award win, as well as the first computer-animated film to win an Academy Award. "Tin Toy" later grabbed attention from Disney, who agreed to create "Toy Story" with Pixar.
