The film famously paired Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire for the first time, and is credited for introducing the world to the best-selling physical single of all time: "White Christmas". The film was produced by Paramount Pictures for nearly $1.1 million, which was considered a high-budget production at the time. "Holiday Inn" was a massive commercial success, earning approximately $3.75 million in domestic rentals during its initial run, and becoming the 8th-highest-grossing film of 1942. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "White Christmas", and received two additional nominations for Best Original Story and Best Score.
