Today in Film History (December 18th, 1998): "You've Got Mail" is Released to Theaters!
On December 18th, 1998, the iconic 1990s film, "You've Got Mail", starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, was released to U.S. theaters. Directed by Nora Ephron, it marked the third time Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan were paired together, after they appeared together in "Joe Versus the Volcano" (1990) and "Sleepless in Seattle" (1993). The movie prominently features America Online's (AOL) email service, and takes its name from the greeting AOL users receive when they get new mail. The film was commercial success, grossing $250.8 million worldwide, and debuting at number one at the North American box office above "The Prince of Egypt", earning $18.4 million on its opening weekend.
