On February 22nd, 1935, "The Little Colonel", starring a young Shirley Temple, premiered in the United States. The film was a moderate success, and went on to gross $1.2 million in the box-office. The film is best known for its iconic staircase tap dance between Temple and Bill Robinson, who was the highest-paid black entertainer at the time. This was the first interracial dance pairing in Hollywood history, and was so controversial at the time, that it was cut out of the film in the Southern United States.
