On February 5th, 1953, the Walt Disney film, "Peter Pan", was released to theaters in the United States. The film is based on J.M. Barrie's 1904 play, "Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up". Walt Disney began developing the film in 1935, but the project was shelved after the attack on Pearl Harbor, as the U.S. Government enlisted Disney to produce training and propaganda films for WWII. Disney began to continue development on "Peter Pan" in 1949. The film earned positive reviews from critics and was a box office success, earning $87.4 million in the box office on a $4 million budget. A sequel, "Return to Never Land" was released in 2002.
