On July 26th, 1985, "National Lampoon's European Vacation", the first sequel in the "Vacation" franchise, was released to U.S. theaters. Directed by Amy Heckerling, and written by Robert Klane and John Hughes, the film features iconic moments like Clark getting the family trapped for hours in a London roundabout, his accidental domino destruction of Stonehedge, and a Bavarian slap-dance in West Germany that devolves into a massive street brawl. Despite receiving mixed reviews compared to the original, the film was a major commercial success, grossing nearly $50 million domestically and opening number one at the box office.
