Today in Film History (June 20th, 1975): "Jaws" is Released in U.S. Theaters!

"You're gonna need a bigger boat!"

On June 20th, 1975, the Steven Spielberg directed film, "Jaws", was released in American theaters. The film was shot mostly at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, and was the first major motion picture to be shot on the ocean, leading to a troubled production, going over budget, and going over schedule. Due to the constant malfunctioning of the mechanical sharks, Spielberg instead, enlisted John Williams to compose an ominous theme song to indicate the sharks appearances. Upon release, "Jaws" became the highest-grossing film of all time, earning $476.5 million in the box office on a $9 million budget, until the release of "Star Wars" in May 1977.
