On June 24th, 1987, the Mel Brooks film, "Spaceballs", was released to theaters in the United States. The film parodies the "Star Wars" films, as well as other films like "Star Trek", "Alien", "2001: A Space Odyssey", and "Planet of the Apes", and stars Mel Brooks, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, and more! The film went on to gross only $40.3 million in the box-office in its initial theatrical run, on a $25.5 million production budget, but had become a cult-classic film in the years following its release.
