On June 9th, 2006, Disney and Pixar released “Cars” to U.S. theaters! “Cars” opened its theatrical release to generally positive reviews from critics. The movie was a commercial success, grossing $462 million worldwide, from a budget of $120 million, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2006. The film received a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the 79th Academy Awards, but lost to “Happy Feet”. The success of “Cars” led to “Cars 2” (2011) and “Cars 3” (2017), as well as a series of short films known as “Cars Toons” (2008) and “Cars on the Road” (2022).
