On March 19th, 1895, the Lumiere Brothers recorded the first motion picture. Titled "La Sortie de l'Usine Lumiere a Lyon", or "Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory", the movie was taken on their newly patented Cinematographe. This 46-second film captured the workers leaving the family's photographic plate factory at noon, marking the first time the Lumiere Brother's three-in-one device - which functioned as a camera, developer, and projector - successfully captured a continuous scene on film. On March 22nd, 1895, the brothers presented the footage to a private audience at the Societe d'Encouragement pour l'Industrie Nationale in Paris, and the footage also served as the foundation for their famous first public, commercial screening in December 1895.
