On May 15th, 2005, "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, which serves as the third chronological chapter of the "Skywalker Saga", was released four days later to theaters in the U.S. on May 19th, 2005. Upon release, the George Lucas-directed film was considered the greatest film in the prequel trilogy, and received generally positive reviews from critics. "Episode III" broke several box office records in its opening weekend, and went on to gross $864.8 million worldwide, making it the second highest grossing film worldwide at the time.
