Today in Film History (May 23rd, 1984): "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is Released to U.S. Theaters!

On May 23rd, 1984, the Steven Spielberg film, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was released to theaters in the United States. Starring Harrison Ford reprising his role as Indiana Jones, the film serves as the second film in the "Indiana Jones" franchise. "The Temple of Doom" grossed $333.1 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 1984. In response to the more violent scenes in the film, and because of similair complaints received by viewers of "Gremlins", Steven Spielberg suggested that the MPAA alter their film rating system to include a medium between PG and R. This led to the introduction of the PG-13 rating.
