On May 25th, 1983, exactly six years after the release of the first "Star Wars" movie, "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" was released to U.S. theaters. Serving as the sequel to "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980), the film was directed by Richard Marquand, with the screenplay by George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan. During its initial theatrical run, "Return of the Jedi" grossed $374 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1983.
