Today in Film History (May 29th, 2009): Disney Pixar's "Up" was Released to U.S. Theaters!

On May 29th, 2009, Pixar's "Up" was released to theaters across the United States. Directed by Pete Docter, it starred the voices of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, Jordan Nagai, and Bob Peterson. "Up" was Pixar's first film to be presented in 3D, and debuted at the Cannes Film Festival on May 13th, 2009. Upon release, the film received critical acclaim, and grossed $735.1 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2009. At the Academy Awards, "Up" was nominated for five awards, winning two, and was the second of three animated films ever to be nominated for Best Picture, ultimately losing to "The Hurt Locker".
