Produced during the third season of the highly-successful "Muppet Show", the film tells the origin story of the Muppets. The film was later released in the United States on June 22nd, 1979, and went on to gross $65.2 million in the box-office on an $8 million production budget. The film also received critical praise, especially for its song, "Rainbow Connection".
