Today in Film History (May 4th, 1984): "Sixteen Candles" was Released to U.S. Theaters!

On May 4th, 1984, the John Hughes film, "Sixteen Candles" was released to U.S. theaters! Starring Molly Ringwald, Michael Schoeffling, and Anthony Michael Hall, the film initially received an "R" rating from the MPAA, but Hughes successfully lobbied to change it to a PG rating. Upon release, the film received generally positive reviews from critics, and became a box-office success, grossing $23.6 million on a $6.5 million production budget. Today, "Sixteen Candles" is considered to be one of John Hughes best films, which helped launch the careers of Ringwald and Hall.
