Today in Film History (May 8th, 1963): "Dr. No", Starring Sean Connery, Premiered in the United States!

On May 8th, 1963, the first James Bond film, "Dr. No", made its debut in the United States. Directed by Terence Young, and based on the 1958 novel by Ian Fleming, "Dr. No" premiered in London on October 5th, 1962. Budgeted at just $1 million, the production established the "Bond Formula" that would define the franchise for decades. Despite receiving mixed reviews initially, it was a massive commercial success, grossing nearly $60 million worldwide and launching a multi-billion dollar cultural phenomenon that remains active over sixty years later.
