Today in Film History (November 17th, 2000): "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" was Released in the United States!

On November 17th, 2000, "How The Grinch Stole Christmas", starring Jim Carrey, was released to theaters across the United States! Based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss childrens book of the same name, the film was directed by Ron Howard, and marked the first Dr. Seuss book that was adapted into a full-length feature film. Narrated by Anthony Hopkins, the film received mixed reviews upon release, but emerged as a major box-office success, grossing $347 million worldwide! The film also spent four weeks as the top film in the U.S. box office, and became the highest-grossing film of 2000 in the United States, and the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2000 worldwide. The film regularly plays during Freeform's annual "25 Days of Christmas" marathon during December.
