On November 18th, 1983, the iconic Christmas film, "A Christmas Story" was released to theaters in the United States. Directed by Bob Clark, the film was written by Jean Shepherd, and based on his 1971 book "Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters". It starred Melinda Dillon, Darren McGavin, and Peter Billingsley, and received positive reviews from critics upon release. In its original theatrical run, it grossed $19.2 million on a $3.3 million production budget. Over the years, "A Christmas Story" has become a holiday classic in the United States and Canada, it has been shown annually on TNT as a marathon since 1997, and on TBS since 2004. The film spawned three sequels including "My Summer Story" (1994), "A Christmas Story 2" (2012), and "A Christmas Story Christmas" (2022).
