Today in Film History (November 27th, 2013): Disney Releases "Frozen" in the United States!

On November 27th, 2013, Disney released "Frozen" to U.S. theaters! Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson's 1844 fairy tale "The Snow Queen", it was directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, and produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. "Frozen" premiered on November 19th, 2013 in Los Angeles, with a theatrical release on November 27th. Critics praised almost every part of the film, and it ultimately grossed over $1.280 billion in the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-grossing animated film, until the "Inside Out 2" surpassed it in 2024. It finished its theatrical run as the highest-grossing film of 2013, as well as the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time. The success led to "Frozen 2" in 2019, and "Frozen 3", which will be releasing in 2027.
