Today in Film History (October 20th, 2017): Pixar's "Coco" Premieres in Mexico!
On October 20th, 2017, Pixar's "Coco" premiered in Mexico. The film was directed by Lee Unkrich, and was inspired by the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead. The film cost between $175-225 million to produce, which makes it the first film with a nine-figure budget to feature an all-Latino principal cast. "Coco" premiered at the Morelia International Film Festival on October 20th, 2017, and was released theatrically in the United States on November 22nd of that year. The film was critically-acclaimed, and grossed $814 million worldwide, becoming the 15th highest-grossing animated film ever at its time of release.
