On September 18th, 1990, the biographical gangster film, "Goodfellas", was released to theaters across the United States. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film is an adaptation of Pileggi's 1985 nonfiction book, "Wiseguy". The film stars Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, and Paul Sorvino, and narrates the rise and fall of Mafia associate Henry Hill. "Goodfellas" premiered at the 47th Venice International Film Festival on September 9th, 1990, and grossed $47 million upon release against a budget of $25 million. The film received widespread acclaim, and was nominated for six Academy Awards, with Pesci winning Best Supporting Actor. Today, "Goodfellas" is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made, particularly in the gangster genre.
