Today in Film History (September 1st, 1989): Pixar's "Knick Knack" Premiered at SIGGRAPH!

On September 1st, 1989, the Pixar animated short film, "Knick Knack" premiered at the SIGGRAPH conference. Written and directed by John Lasseter, it was the final short film produced by Pixar before "Toy Story" was released in 1995. Singer Bobby McFerrin, known for his hit, "Don't Worry, Be Happy", improvised the a cappella vocal soundtrack to the film, which was left unchanged in its final edition. When it debuted, "Knick Knack" was shown in 3D, and enjoyed positive reviews and was later screened at numerous film festivals. The short was remastered in 2003, and shown before showings on "Finding Nemo" during its original theatrical run.
