Today in Music History (June 28th, 1985): Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" is Released!

On June 28th, 1985, British rock band, Dire Straits, released their most successful single, "Money for Nothing". The song became a huge success, especially in the United States where its music video was heavily played on MTV and where the single peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is credited for popularizing the phrase "I Want My MTV", which MTV used as one of their advertising phrases. The music video for "Money For Nothing" was groundbreaking at the time of its release, and is well-known as one of the first 3D computer-animated music videos, as well as one of the first uses of computer-animated human characters. It was the first music video played on MTV Europe when the network launched on August 1st, 1987.
