The Coca-Cola Company first used a polar bear in their advertising in 1922, for a French advertisement that depicted a bear squirting Coca-Cola into the mouth of a thirsty sun. After that first advertisement, though, Coca-Cola barely used them again until the iconic 1993 advertisement, entitled Northern Lights. This ad was computer-animated and featured the polar bears watching the Aurora Borealis and drinking Coke. With the success of this commercial, Coca-Cola produced many more commercials with the Polar Bears, and even plush versions of them, and they quickly became pop-culture icons of Christmas in the 1990s!
