"Oh, the Humanity!" - Herbert Morrison, WLS Radio Broadcaster, 1937
On May 6th, 1937, the German commercial passenger-carrying airship, the "Hindenburg", burst into flames in a field in Manchester Township, New Jersey. It was filled with hydrogen, and caught fire while attempting to dock with its mooring mast. The accident caused 35 deaths out of the 97 people on board, and an additional fatality on the ground. Radio broadcaster, Herbert Morrison, recorded radio eyewitness reports of the disaster that were broadcast the next day. The disaster has become the most iconic airship disaster in history, and was also the subject of the album cover for Led Zeppelin's debut album in 1969.
