Today in Tech History (April 17, 1970): Apollo 13 Safely Returns to Earth!

Apollo 13 was the seventh crewed space mission in the Apollo space program. The craft launched on April 11, 1970 from Kennedy Space Center. The mission was aborted in two days after an oxygen tank ruptured on the service module, disabling the electrical and life-support system. The spacecraft, instead, looped around the Moon and circled back to Earth, where it returned safely on April 17. In 1995, a movie was made about the story of the ill-fated spacecraft called "Apollo 13" which starred Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon.
FUN FACT: During Apollo 13, astronaut Jim Lovell utters the phrase, "Houston, we've HAD a problem". In the 1995 movie, the phrase was changed to, "Houston, we HAVE a problem" to make the scene more dramatic.
