On December 21, 1937, the first feature-length animated film, "Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs" premiered. The film took over 3 years and $1.5 million to produce. Walt Disney famously mortgaged his house and put all his money on this film. In addition, this was the first feature-length Disney film, while Disney had only made short films beforehand. Its first showing was at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles, with a national release on February 4, 1938. Adjusted for inflation, the film is one of the top-ten highest grossing films in the North American box office, and the highest grossing animated film.
