Today in Tech History (December 31, 1999): The World Awaits the Effects of the Y2K Bug!

On December 31, 1999, the world waited in worry for the potential effects of the frightening Y2K bug. The worry was that computers would not know what to do once the year 2000 arrived, and all electronic devices would be messed up. This could have potentially destroyed many computer reliant industries, and many people believed the apocalypse would come. Many companies predicted the bug would cost between $400 billion and $600 billion in damages, but fortunately few major events occurred.
