Today in Tech History (January 21, 1981): The DeLorean DMC-12 Sports Car Begins Production!

On January 21, 1981, DeLorean began production of its iconic DMC-12 sports car. Production took place in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. This car was the only car brought to market by John DeLorean's company, and is famous for being the subject of Doc Brown's time machine in the "Back to the Future" films (1985-1990). The iconic "gull-wing" doors became its most memorable feature, which was featured on many cars in the later years, including the Tesla Model X. The car was discontinued in 1983 after a short run on the market.
"The way I see it - if you're going to build a time machine out of a car, you might as well do it with some style!" - Doc Brown, "Back to the Future" (1985)
