On January 25th, 2012, the social media photo and video sharing social media platform, Instagram, surpassed 30 million active users. Instagram was initially released on October 12th, 2010, in San Francisco, California. Instagram gained 1 million registered users within 2 months of release, 10 million in a year, and 1 billion by June 2018. In April 2012, the Android version of the app was released, followed by a feature-limited desktop interface version in November 2012. In April 2012, FaceBook acquired Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stock.
