On January 3, 1957, Hamilton Watch Company released the Hamilton Electric 500, the world's first electric watch. The watch proved popular among consumers who loved the fact that you did not have to wind the watch, but the watch was unreliable and had a very short battery life. Hamilton also released the world's first digital watch in 1972.
