Today in Tech History (January 9th, 2001): Apple Computer, Inc. Announces iTunes at the MacWorld Expo!

On January 9th, 2001, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced iTunes at the MacWorld Expo. The original and main focus of iTunes was to provide users with a library that offered them organization and storage of their music collections on Mac computers. In 2003, Apple added the iTunes Store, which made purchasing and downloading digital music possible, as well as adding a Windows-compatible version of the program. iTunes became an important part of the iPod, as users could purchase and download music from their Mac's iTunes account onto their device. Although iTunes was very well recieved in its early years, the program began to recieve increasing critisim later on for a "bloated user experience", which added features beyond its original focus on music.
