The Apple II personal computer was released by Apple Computer on June 5th, 1977. It was initially designed by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The Apple II was one of the first mass-produced personal computers, along with the Tandy TRS-80 and the Commodore PET. It ultimately replaced the Commodore PET as the prominent personal computer in schools. Many more models were released in the Apple II line until the line’s discontinuation in 1993 including the Apple II Plus (1979), Apple IIe (1983), Apple IIc (1984), and Apple IIGS (1986). By the end of its production, Apple had produced approximately six million Apple II series computers. The Apple II line is one of the longest running mass-produced home computer series, with models being produced for just under 17 years.
