On November 19, 2006, Nintendo releases the Wii. It was a direct competition for the Sony Playstation 3 and the Microsoft XBOX 360. The Wii remote control, AKA the "Wiimote", was one of the first video game remotes to detect human movements. The Wii initially cost $249.99 at release. Nintendo shipped around 101.6 million Wii's, by the time the console was discontinued in North America in May 2014.
