On September 29, 1983, Microsoft released Word 1.0, their first software application. Used with MS-DOS systems, Word was the first word-processing software that made extensive use of a computer mouse. Luckily, Microsoft had released an IBM-compatible computer mouse earlier that year. A Microsoft Word 1.0 demo disk was included with PC World magazine, making it the first time a floppy disk was included with a magazine.
