Today in Television History (August 1st, 1950): The First Television Cartoon, "Crusader Rabbit", Premiered on Television!

On August 1st, 1950, "Crusader Rabbit" which is credited for being the first television cartoon program, was released to syndication in the United States. The show was created by Alexander Anderson and Jay Ward. The concept for "Crusader Rabbit" was test-marketed in 1948, and the show was syndicated from 1950 to 1951 for 195 episodes, and was later revived in 1959 for 260 color episodes. Jay Ward later went on to create "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends" in 1959.
