On August 9th, 2009, the first episode of the reality TV series, "Shark Tank" premiered on ABC. The show is the American franchise version of the international show, "Dragon's Den", a British TV series, which is a remake of the Japanese TV show, "The Tigers of Money" itself. The show shows entrepreneurs making business presentations to a panel of five angel investors (or Sharks), who decide whether or not to invest. The series has been a rating success in its time slot, winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Structured Reality Program five times from 2014-2017 and 2024. One of the pitches in the premiere episode, for the Ionic Ear, is often considered the worst pitch in Shark Tank history.
