On December 1st, 1996, ABC Family premiered their later iconic television marathon, "25 Days of Christmas" on television. The marathon runs annually for 25 days, from December 1st to December 25th, and consists of primarily of reruns of Christmas-themed television specials and theatrical films, as well as originally produced television films. Over the years, the "25 Days of Christmas" has become a Christmas staple, and still attracts major surges in viewership for Freeform (formely ABC Family), with more iconic film airings often still attracting 3-4 million viewers or more!
