On December 28th, 1987, the original animated series, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", premiered on television! Based on the comic book characters created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the show originally aired in syndication as a five-part miniseries. On October 1st, 1988, the show began its full-time run, and ran until November 2nd, 1996. The show was the first television appearance of the Ninja Turtles, and helped launch them into mainstream popularity, leading them to become some of the most iconic pop culture characters of the 1980s and 1990s. By 1990, the series was being shown daily on more than 125 television stations.
