On December 31st, 1955, the first episode of "The Gumby Show" premiered on NBC. The show was created by Art Clokey, who had previously produced a short, claymation film called "Gumbasia". The first Gumby short premiered as part of "The Howdy Doody Show" in 1955, and was called "Gumby on the Moon". His orange pony sidekick, Pokey, made an appearance in a later episode in 1956, and was kept as his iconic pal throughout the whole series.
