On December 8th, 1952, the "I Love Lucy" episode "Lucy is Enceinte" became the first television episode to revolve around a pregnancy. Airing during the middle of the show's second season, the title uses the French word for "pregnant" as a way to get around the network censor restriction which barred the word from being spoken or referred to directly. During the episode, the characters used the phrase "Lucy is expecting" instead of saying she was pregnant. "I Love Lucy" star Lucille Ball was actually 5 months pregnant at the time the episode was filmed.
